• ‘With both the Genesis Revisited tour and album I feel I’ve given people something they had really wanted for a long time’ says legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, and that certainly seemed to be the case when he released ‘Genesis Revisited II’ in October 2012. Met with a vociferous and fantastic response from fans and critics alike, it was clear that there was an appetite for these classic songs, with the album reaching the number 26 spot in the UK National Album Charts. • The ensuing tour was met with an equally stunning reception, and on the 10th May 2013, Steve Hackett and his band performed a sold-out show at London’s legendary Hammersmith Apollo. For that night, his usual band which includes Nad Sylvan (vocals), Lee Pomeroy (bass & twelve-string), Roger King (keyboards), Gary O’Toole (drums) and Rob Townsend (saxophone, woodwind) were joined by a host of guests that had previously appeared on the studio album, to create a special show. As Steve himself remarks, ‘playing to a sold-out Hammersmith Apollo was truly a homecoming to remember and in front of such a great crowd.’ • Joining him for the rapturously received performance that evening were Nik Kershaw, John Wetton, Amanda Lehman, Steve Rothery and Jakko Jaksyzk, who all gave sublime performances on the night, providing their considerable talents on tracks like ‘The Lamia’ and ‘Afterglow’. Not only that, but the band tackled the full 23- minute progressive rock classic ‘Supper’s Ready’ as well as other fan favourites such as ‘Watcher Of The Skies’ and ‘Dance On A Volcano’. ‘A particular moment from the London show that I remember is the standing ovation to The Musical Box; I felt the team really delivered’ says Hackett, but the reality is that the evening was full of these kind of moments from start to finish, and this DVD document is proof of that

This 1991 concert film was shot in the IMAX format and was originally presented on enormous IMAX screens, with outstanding visual and audio clarity. The dimensions may have been scaled down for this Blu-ray release, but the show is still huge in energy and talent. Filmed during a European leg of the Rolling Stones’ Steel Wheels tour, this production boasts 15 songs and an extraordinary stage set with inflatable floozies (for “Honky Tonk Woman”) and wild dogs (rather cleverly for “Street Fighting Man”). The Stones’ set emphasizes material from the late 1960s and early ’70s (“Tumbling Dice,” “Happy,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”), but the band’s performance is so furious that the show is far from a pandering oldies act. Highlights include “Paint It Black,” at once brutal and delicate, as well as a muscular “Rock and a Hard Place,” a psychedelicized “2,000 Light Years from Home,” and a cheeky “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Once kings of a gloriously sloppy sound, the Stones prove to be as effective in their artistic maturity with small, breathtaking touches as they are with chunky orchestration. Guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood play as if they are of one mind, Richards providing powerful leads while his partner captures some of the texture of the group’s original recordings. Bassist Bill Wyman, still in the band at this phase, offers wit and an encyclopedic grasp of rhythm & blues history, while drummer Charlie Watts adds control and swing. Mick Jagger prowls, climbs around the set, and delivers all the charismatic goods for adoring audiences, even touching the forbidden fruit again in a feverish peformance of “Sympathy for the Devil.”

The Rolling Stones 1978 tour of the USA in support of that year’s Some Girls album is considered by fans to be one of their very best. The tour followed immediately on the release of the Some Girls album and by the time the band arrived in Texas in mid-July the album had hit the No.1 spot on the US charts. The tour took a back to basics approach, with the band and their music very much at the forefront and little or no elaborate staging. Filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 18th, 1978, this concert is typical of the tour with the Rolling Stones delivering a raw, energetic performance in front of a crowd who are clearly loving the show. Many of the tracks from Some Girls are included in the live set with a sprinkling of Stones classics from earlier albums. Originally shot on 16mm film, the footage has been carefully restored and the sound remixed and remastered by Bob Clearmountain from the original multitrack tapes. This is undeniably the Rolling Stones at the peak of their form.
